Sorry

I am so sorry to any of my readers for being so remiss in my postings. May has been a crazy month for me health-wise. I am still in the process of seeing doctors to try to figure out what is going on and how to fix it. Also, I am unsure what to post now because I am reading much older books that would be silly to review at this point and haven't seen any recent movies that I am passionate enough about to review. I do hope to see Snow White and the Huntsman soon, so perhaps I will review that. I am torn whether I should post any of my current work on my novel, Gayle. The reason I hesitate is because the work is nowhere near complete and therefore nowhere near being published. So if I post the first chapter or two that is complete and readers enjoy it and want to read the whole story, they will be out of luck because there will be nowhere where they can get it to read. I'm not so naive or overly confident to think that there will be hundreds of people who will be complaining that they can't buy my book, but in reality I don't want to disappoint anyone who might enjoy my work and want to buy it. I have been toying with the idea of posting the short story that I wrote for my creative writing of science fiction and fantasy class that is the basis for the novel. I'll think about the merits of this further and get back to you. In the meantime, I do intend to post more often this month, so please come back. :)

I would consider it young adult fiction mainly because the protagonist is in her teens. It is realistic fiction also, which in YA, I don't tend to read a lot of. However, going in I didn't have any bias toward the genre. I was actually pleasantly surprised how much I liked it, considering the fact that I read much more sci-fi/fantasy. I thought that the main character Megan was very realistically written, and even though she has a bit of an extreme personality, at first, I thought it was also easy to identify with her. What she goes through and deals with as a teenager doesn't seem that far-fetched for any teen these days, and therefore, her reactions also are within the realm of believability. Thoughts on the progress of my novel

I'm currently working on a story - actually writing it. I've only got one chapter finished, and I'm not writing often enough. I get distracted easily with family life (husband and five-year-old son as well as my mom's extended illness and my grandmother now living alone), but I also second-guess my ability too often. It's going to be a novel or series of novels for young adults, a work of fantasy. The story is centered around a young woman of 17 who has a special ability. In this world, the elements of fire, water, and wind can be detected by gifted individuals whom I call Elementals (because they can see the animal representation of the elements and therefore talk to and manipulate them). The protagonist's name is Gayle. I envision (much because I haven't gotten to that part yet) that the conflicts she encounters will be with an authority figure named Lord Stormwind. My Mother's Secret by J.L. Witterick

*I was given this book free by the author in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.* My Mother's Secret is a work of fiction, but it is based on the basic attributes of a true Holocaust story; Franciszka and Helena Halamajowa were real people who lived in Poland during the German occupation and helped many of their Jewish neighbors escape the concentration camps or death. The story is broken into five parts, each told from a different person's perspective. The writing is direct and informative - fitting to the stark reality of the story. There is no flowery language, and it is not prone to long passages of description. I do not believe that readers will find this style unreadable, but some may find the writing style a bit lacking. That being said, I think that the plot is written well, paced nicely, and it reads very quickly.
